Overview

This course provides relational DBAs with essential and advanced skills to manage, secure, recover, and optimize IBM Db2 v12.1 environments. Beginning with foundational concepts, participants will learn how to install Db2, configure instances, manage storage, and create database objects using both command-line and GUI tools. The course then expands into practical techniques for data movement, backup and recovery, and high availability configurations, equipping learners to maintain data integrity and ensure business continuity.

Security and concurrency are addressed in depth, including the implementation of user access controls, role-based permissions, encryption methods, Row and Column Access Control (RCAC), Label-Based Access Control (LBAC), and Trusted Contexts for multi-tiered architectures. Participants will also explore Db2’s locking mechanisms and isolation levels to troubleshoot contention issues and manage concurrent workloads effectively.

Performance tuning and optimization are emphasized through detailed instruction on the query optimizer, indexing strategies, monitoring tools, and the use of EXPLAIN utilities. This course describes advanced operator actions to implement new policies, coupling facilities, structures and sysplex related operational enhancements. It diagnoses problems and demonstrates recovery techniques in these areas. These include:

• Identifying HMC problems and recovery, including IPL problems during system and sysplex activation
• Recovery with and without SFM policies
• Couple data set failures
• CF and CF structure failures

Labs are provided to submit jobs to format CDS, define policies, start and verify that they are working as desired, identify any policy change pending conditions and correct as needed. Labs take students through the required steps to implement ECS, GRS star, JES checkpoint, Operlog, Logrec, and SM duplexing on the CF. Students will also identify potential problems during the implementation process, identify various CDS and other sysplex related problems. Students will remove a CF from the sysplex as in the case of required maintenance to a CF add a new CF to the sysplex and perform system and CF failure and recovery scenarios.

It then provides a more detailed analysis, description and lab activities that can be applied to the system programmer role to maintain z/OS systems.

Discussion activities include: The POR, IPL process, JES implementation and operating environment, VTAM environment for TSO, ISPF, SNA and TCP/IP networking, RACF, ISPF/PDF and UNIX System Services. It defines the classic approach to data management in a z/OS system. It identifies various software products and utilities used to define, maintain, and manage catalogs and data sets in the z/OS environment. It also discusses Parmlib usage and requirements for system initialization and operation that include: System symbolics, WLM, SFM, RMF and system logger. Both single system and multi-system sysplex usage is identified. z/OS install, upgrade options, maintenance using SMP/E and I/O configuration requirements using HCD is listed and described.

In der Ausbildung wird durch Vortrag, Gruppenarbeit und Selbsterfahrung eine Wissensbasis zu den Grundlagen sowie den Anwendungsmöglichkeiten systemischer Interventionstechniken einschließlich passender Entspannungsverfahren geschaffen. Systemische Familientherapie ist eine lösungs- und ressourcenbezogene Therapieform. Symptome werden dabei nicht als Pathologien eingestuft, sondern als Probleme, die durch soziale Rollenverteilung und Kommunikation zustande gekommen sind. Die Teilnehmer(innen) üben Techniken aus den unterschiedlichen Ansätzen der Familientherapie (strategische, konstruktivistische, generationale oder struktureller Ansatz).
